MurderOne Shirt App

5/20/09

So I have finally finished the shirt application for MurderOne Clothing! It turned out pretty well, all and all. There were several last minuet changes making it more interesting, and even though I had to take out some neat tweening effects the overall feel was still intact.

When setting up the pay-pal button, I developed an easy method of passing in multiple extra variables (other than price), using only one button. I will try to get a little example up about my method soon. I have been BUSY, lately look for a lot of updates when the storm calms!
AND!

Stelor Games

5/16/09

Well it turns out Stelor Producions has went under. For those unaware I worked for Stelor back in 2006-2007, makeing various mini games for children. Recently Stelor has went under and It just so happended that I came across a larg portion of the games I had made when working for Stelor. So I will share them with you!

I have uploaded 9 new games! That may seem like a lot but keep in mind they are all mini games. Some of my favorites out of the recently upped are GooLander, Spiral Maker, and Alphabuzz. So go click on the games section and play (that's the icon that looks like a game piece or joystick). Keep in mind they are ALL children's games so play them as (or with) a child for the optimum experiance!

Snipt.net

5/1/09

Snipt.net is dead and along with it several code snipets that I had stored on there :(

WOW!!! I have found a truly awesome site for the modern traveling developer, snipt.net. The idea is actually rather simple, you copy your code to the site and it displays your code in wonderful syntax highlighting. Then if your ever out on the go and can't quite remember how you structured some efficient piece of code, just go to your Snipt account and look it up!

You also have a choice weather the code you add to the site is public or private. In the spirit of open source I lean towards making all my snips public in the spirit of open source! I am already in love with this site, it has a very clean look and is easy to use, and for all of you who have been wishing I would share code more often, well now every time I add to my snipt account I will also post it to my site, wow, that mean I'll be updating my blog A LOT more. Catch ya in the biteArray!

Kirupa Art Contest, 2nd!

4/16/09

WIN!

Ok, well I didn't get 1st, but I did manage to get entered in the Kirupa.com draw yourself competition and win 2nd! I was pretty happy to be recognized for having some small degree of artistic skill and the $100 prize is nice too!

One point of hilarity I would like to point out is that all though I got 2nd place I actually got the the 3rd highest amount of votes. That is to say that I was beaten by "None (Just show me the results!)", LOL++! So I am 2nd place but beat by none, wow, that statement could be open to a whole set of interpretations.

AS3 Preloader Class

3/17/09

Ok, so who is tired of making a preloader for every mid to large size project? Yes it is essential to have something pretty for people to look at while they are waiting for your page or other info to load. But wouldn't it be nice if setting up a preloader was only a couple lines of code? YES!

Soooo, I have made a rather slick preloader class will track anything you tell it to (well so far only The Stage, MovieClips, Loaders, and Sound), just by calling Preloader.trackLoading(your_obj);. All the public functions are static, so they can be access directly by the class name + function name. The super nice part is you can call Preloader.trackLoading(stage); on the your stage and let the preloader do all the work, so anytime you loaded a moive onto your stage the preloader knows and will kick on and do it's thing.

Sound is a little different, I am still trying to capture where in the event phase a sound starts loading, so for now anytime you load a sound via script you would have to tell the preloader to track it manually like, Preloader.trackLoading(ur_sound);.

So, you probably are wondering how simply tracking the data will lead to your own custom pretty loader. There are two stored functions by the preloader class, onLoaded and whileLoading and these are read/write. Well, anyways, if your really interested go ahead and download the class and it's example files.

Purple Cauliflower

3/15/09

Some times in life colors all blend together and the great feats of nature and man seem mundane and trivial. At what point do trees become un-interesting, when every last one is different? When do you lose interest in problem solving when any problem has an unthinkable amount of solutions? Life being in the abstract, non-biological, is the interpretation of the one "living" it. Variety being the abstract "spice" of the abstract "life", and I a lover of spice, crave variety. Recently my view of variety has been aroused by one of the most beautiful vegetables I have ever seen, the purple cauliflower.

Now I have seen a lot of different plants in my life. I am a life long lover of nature, and have even worked on a farm, yet I have never seen purple cauliflower, and this puts a whole new spin on how i see other things. Well this little bit of acknowledgment has kicked my right brian into action.

Since my first encounter with the purple cauliflower I have been taking things more slowly and from an increased array of perspectives. Tomorrow I plan on eating the cauliflower and shall consider a variety of ways to perpare the dish. Which brings me back to variety, ummm. I had found the purple cauliflower when visiting a MOM's store I had never patroned.

Variety brings about more variety, but you must open up your boundaries to find it. Count the rings in a tree, count the trees in a ring. Count the rings in base 2, 8, 10, 16 and yes even 13.Anyways, go some where new find your purple cauliflower and notice the intricacies of life, because variety is a spice that grows every where. INSPIRATION!!!

Paul is FREE!

1/29/09

I am pleased to say that a client and friend of mine Paul Jacob has beaten his case in Oklahoma! Finally he can get back to what is important like assisting people with petition's and supporting ballot initiatives. For those who don't know, Paul caught fire from Oklahoma after aiding the citizens of that state on a petition. If you would like to know more, visit the site I did for Free Paul Jacob! On a final note looking at this picture makes me think a hair cut should be in my near future.

Wallpaper tutorial

1/19/09

After making several different types of these wallpapers for friends and co-workers, I have decided to post a blog on how to make your own cool gas cloud type wallpaper. To do this you will need Photoshop or similar image manipulation software.

First, create a new file that is the same size as your desktop and set your background color, I always use black because it usually accents the vapor effect the best. Then select your brush tool and set the weight to some where between 3-5px. Make some colored line, note that you should put every line on it's own layer.

Next take your smudge tool and push the pixels in your line around. To get a good smear you should start pulling half-way through the line, to get an exaggerated pull that won't show up as much start at one side of the line and pull all the way through.

Finally when you have pulled your colored pixels around to your satisfaction, go to your Layer Properties panel and add a drop shadow. Set the Blend Mode to normal, and get your best sample of the color of the line, you can also use a similar color to get some other effects. Adjust your angle, then play around with your distance, size, and spread to get a good cloud floating off of your line.

You may want to tweak you lines after you have added your drop shadow cloud effect. I recommend save you image as a .jpg, this way you get a small file size and a good color transition. In the end this is how our example turned out.

If you want to download some neat wallpapers I have made visit my art section and feel free to download as much as you want ^_^!

My First C++ App

12/3/08

I have always wanted to learn a lower level programming language, and for that first time, a non-web based one! C seemed like it would be a good start, but C doesn't have as many cool classes, so C++ seemed like a good alternative. So after a little reading I find that C++ syntax is not much different than AS 3 (or PHP, JS, etc). Sense I'm a hands on learner I set out creating my first C++ app.

After a couple hours I ended up with a simple friendly calculator (hey what did you expect). It is interesting how you control events in C++ as apposed to most web languages, it doesn't seem like there event listeners so you have to be creative with interacting with the user. Anyways, it will probably be some time before I build anything worth while in C++, but it will happen!
Check out my first C++ App, I included the source code in there, your welcome ;)

Vigilant Logo

11/22/08

So, a little while ago there was talk about my companies appearance getting a face lift. Awesome! I was excited to get an opportunity to remake what I have always thought was a very unimpressive logo. Well it turned out that all this was just in speculation, but I want to share with you lovely folk the ideas I had for the new Vigilant Services logo.
